Psychedelics have been used for thousands of years in traditional indigenous ceremonies – particularly in parts of South America. Research is showing very promising results for psychedelic therapy when it comes to things like treatment resistant depression, PTSD, and addiction. However despite a growing body of evidence on what psychedelic therapy can do, ayahuasca (along with other psychedelics) is classified in the UK (and in many other parts of the world) as a Schedule 1 drug. Dr Sophie is therefore not advocating the use of any illegal substances.
